FOUNDATIONS OF TRAUMA THERAPY using TA Approach
with Dr. Mark Widdowson
20 October 2023

About the workshop
Over the past twenty years, there has been a growing awareness that many mental health problems have their origins in trauma. With around 60% of people globally having had at least one major trauma in their life, and with global prevalence rates of PTSD of around 10% of the population, it is essential that counsellors and psychotherapists be equipped to work with them. As the field of psychotraumatology has developed, so has our understanding that 'standard talking therapy' is often either insufficient, or inefficient at resolving trauma swiftly.
In this workshop, Mark will be providing participants with a range of models and techniques to help them understand and work with trauma safely and effectively. He will be drawing on research, presenting a number of evidence-based techniques, and integrating these into a TA framework and his own 'roadmap for trauma therapy'.
Learning Outcomes
After attending the workshop and on completion of all additional study and skills practice, participants will be able to:
1) Define and conceptualise trauma, and conduct trauma-informed assessments with clients.
2) Utilise a range of trauma stabilisation techniques and integrate these into a trauma-informed treatment plan.
3) Utilise a number of key techniques for trauma processing.
Who should attend?
The workshop is suitable for trainee and qualified counsellors and psychotherapists. Ideally, trainees will have completed some basic counselling skills training and be either ready to or almost ready to commence clinical practice. Recommended for TA practitioners, Psychotherapists, Psychologists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Teachers, and Health care workers.
A certificate of participation will be presented by TAA Singapore with 3.5 CPE-hours
